Our agency began in 1933 as a general agent for the Hawkeye-Security Insurance Company. At one time over 50 agents wrote business accounts through the agency. Its original location in the Livestock Exchange Building in the heart of Kansas City's Stockyards was ideal in the days when over 50,000 head of cattle passed through. The agency grew and one of its early producers, George Bermel, eventually acquired its ownership and changed the name to Kansas City Insurance Agency. In 1994, the agency merged Willis, Hill and Miller, Etem Insurance Agency and Kansas City Insurance to form Summit Insurance Group. The offices moved to Lee's Summit, just 17 miles southeast of its original location. In 1999, Mary Erwin merged her agency with Summit Insurance Group. The Mary Erwin Agency added over 30 years of expertise to the group. With diverse backgrounds and expertise , the agencies bring together over 100 years of service to this metropolitan area. Summit Insurance Group currently insures over 5,000 individuals and families and more than 850 business concerns.
